gitai: an open-source take on Anthropic's Scion
Anthropic described Scion but didn't release it. An open-source take on the same design, gitai, appeared two days later.
The repo by feder-cr says plainly that it's an independent implementation of the publicly described design, not affiliated with Anthropic. Underneath it still uses normal Git repositories.
It builds several of the ideas from the Scion post. History questions like blame run on the server and get cached. Changes land with a compare-and-swap instead of a merge queue. A changeset log records who made every update, including which agent. Each agent gets its own token and branch policies, so it can only do what it's allowed to. And after a change lands, the system tests the tip, bisects a failure and reverts the change that broke it.
It's days old (about 2.3k stars as I write), written in Go, and the build needs Go, Meson and Ninja. I'd treat it as something to read and learn from, not something to move your team onto this week.
But one idea is worth stealing today: give every agent its own credentials and limits.
Which of these would you try first?
